La Flèche 2025 – Day 9 – Bourges to Nevers via Magny Cours

89km (55 miles)

Bourges to Nevers via Magny Cours

When looking for things to do, Mark brought up that that the French super bike racing would be happening at Magny Cours. While not a follower of the race series, I was definitely interested in the place and the race course.

Sitting in bleachers

MacBean and I did not plan on having the same types of hats but they work pretty well for bald pates. Someone pretty soon coined Bill and Ben (the flower pot men) as a moniker.

Race Action

The racing was good but there was a lot of red flag action. The first race which was a smaller class ended up being red-flagged and called early. Then during qualifying for the European bikes – not sure what the class is yet – ended with a red-flag. Then the first super bike race was stopped after a lap for a crash.

When the race got going for real, the factory Honda rider ran away with it. He was a second a lap or more faster than his team mate his closest rival. For the back of the field, he was a good eight seconds a lap faster than. I figured he only needed one more lap to begin lapping the back of the field.

La Plage in Nevers.

It was another scorcher of a day, so the beach was calling our name for a cool off. This time with a view of Nevers in the background. The river was flowing quite a bit more than the others we’d swum in and carried you quickly downstream.

Nap time

No, this is not me taking advantage of a homeless person, just Martyn. He can sleep anywhere and seemingly under any conditions.

Cocktail Hour

After we got checked in at the lodgings, Martyn went for another dozzle. MacBean and I walked into town for a refreshing beer and pastis.

Pudding

Given the restaurant had crème brûlée on the menu, I had to give it a try. It was quite good. The brûléed sugar was crackly and crunch but not a solid sheet of caramelized sugar.
