I decided to take the 999 out for a ride today. Looking at it, it’s hard to believe that I have had this bike for 21 years now. When you are riding, it does remind you – no ABS, no slipper clutch, no clutchless shifting, no wheelie control.

Shadow Mountain Figure 8 – 73 miles round trip.
I usually try and jump straight into the closest canyon, Deer Creek, when I ride but today, I decided to head further around C-470 to the US 285 exit. A lot of that had to do with how hot the 999 runs and I wanted to get it cooler before starting in the twisties. As soon as I got on 285 the gas light came on. Needless to say, there is nothing until you get up to Aspen Park which is where I planned to get off anyway.
From Aspen Park, I took the CR-73 to the Shadow Mountain turn-off, up and over the mountain, past Maxwell falls and down through Brook Forest and back to CR-73. From there a cut back up to Marshdale and stopped at The Lift Coffee and Ski Shop. Then it was back down to Turkey Creek canyon to the Twin Forks Tavern and then back down Deer Creek and into South Valley Park.
