La Flèche 2025 – Day 8 – La Flèche to Bourges via St Aignan

227 km (141 miles)

The day 8 route

Today was another hot day. I saw 38ºC on the motorcycle dash which I think equates to 100ºF. With that in mind, we planned a midpoint stop in a town with a river and a beach.

It was also the day that we said goodbye to Mark. He was heading back to Bollington as we headed out east to get close to Magny Cours for the French super bike racing.

St Agnan-sur-Cher from La Plage

St Agnan was our stopping point for cooling off in the river. It was another town with a beach for us to take dip. The city on the far side of the river was beautiful to look at.

You will not miss the beach

After a swim, it was time for lunch. We found a great little place just off the river in the old town.

Courtyard lunch

\This was probably the best meal we have had to day on this trip. I had duck tartare, Martyn had a bone marrow dish of sorts, and MacBean had a fish pâté that was delightful. The only downside was we got flat water, not water with gas.

After lunch, we headed down the road to Bourges to find our accommodation. We managed to snag street parking across the street from our apartment so we could keep an eye on the bikes.

Brazilian Drummers

After parking and showering, we headed in to town to find beers and food. One of the things we did find was an Afro-beat drumming crew. It wasn’t hard to point out that there was a little cultural appropriation going on. Later, after they finished, a group of them came and sat at the table next to us. It turns out that they are doing Brazilian drumming. Once upon a time, they had done more styles but this was all that was left.

The Kebab Plate

Dinner was Moroccan style kebabs. Mac and Martyn pointed out that France is the place to go get North African food. It was filling.

Heading home

Even by English standards, Bourges seems historic. The streets are cobbled and narrow. The buildings are old and higgledy-piggledy.
