La Flèche 2025 – Day 3 – Burnley

0 miles

Today was another day of hanging out with the family. It was great to really have no agenda. Judith invited us up to have lunch at her house. Chicken lasagna from Judith and a salad from mum’s garden.

My RayBan Metas impress Judith. William not so much.

Judith and Darren have restored and extended an old farmhouse built in the 1700s. Out front they have a beautiful patio and sun spot. Darren was there with his crew working on paving stones on the driveway. William is part of the crew but managed to wangle half a day off. I guess it helps to be he boss’s son.

William and Tyra

Tyra came up for lunch between clients at her studio. I’m impressed with the way she has built up her business and how she is looking to expand. You don’t see many people under 30 looking to buy £30,000 pieces of equipment.

Mum looking cool and ready to run a triathlon

Believe it or not it was sunny enough for mum need shades. I think she looks pretty cool. With her trainers, she looks ready to run a triathlon.

We had to leave Judith’s in time for here to bone up on the water aerobics class she was going to teach

Better days

When we got back to the house, after a trip to the grocery store to pick up coffee and tea supplies for France, we went for a walk around Rowley Lake. It’s a five minute walk from the house. It does need a bit of brightening up.

Rowley Lake

It is actually beautiful these days. At the far side of the lake where all the trees are, it used to be a sewage treatment plant and part of the land was a waste dump from the nearby mines.

Fishing Hole

Today, it is stocked with fish. When I was a kid, nothing could live in these waters. Most had been killed by dumping of mine waste further up stream. What is interesting the fish here are microchipped.

Sushi in Burnley?

For dinner, we picked up sushi at the grocery store. I was certainly impressed that Burnley has taken a step forward in the culinary world. No restaurants yet and the only fish available was salmon but impressive nonetheless.
